Santa Fe is New Mexico’s state capital, the county seat of Santa Fe County and the state’s fourth-largest city. It also happens to be New Mexico’s oldest city and the United States’ oldest state capital. If you’re looking for a city in which to retire, Santa Fe may be the city of your dreams. U.S. News and CBS Money Watch ranked the city as one of the best retirement places in the country. Also, over 18 percent of people in this city are 65 and over.
Santa Fe residents love their city due to its focus on art and culture. A place where you can bask in wonderful works of art is the New Mexico Museum of Art, New Mexico’s oldest art museum. This museum holds over 20,000 works of art from the past and modern times. It also has changing exhibitions, a library, and an auditorium. From August through May, Performance Santa Fe showcases dancers, actors, and musicians to entertain residents and visitors alike. The organization has been going strong since 1937. Drop by the Santa Fe Botanical Garden to view beautiful landscapes. It features a potpourri of rocks, stones, and plants. The garden also includes a library, a garden shop, and a wetlands preserve. The Genoveva Chavez Community Center is the largest recreational facility in the city, which means you’ll have plenty of ways to have fun while keeping in shape. You can play sports like soccer, hockey, and volleyball or sign up for fitness classes like yoga or pilates. Santa Fe offers many education options for you and/or your child. The Santa Fe Public School District runs 31 public schools. This city also has several private schools for kindergartners through eighth graders and four colleges for high school graduates and adults returning to school.
Fifty-seven percent of real estate properties in Santa Fe are single family residences. Other homes in Santa Fe include mobile homes, apartments, and townhomes. About half of residences here were built during the years 1970-1999, and they have an average of two to three bedrooms. Santa Fe is a nice city in which to live because it’s close to many places, and it has nice weather. But, those aren’t the only reasons why you should move here. The city celebrates the beauty of art, and that makes it a wonderful place, especially if you’re an art fan or a budding artist.
